103. Lyz Lenz: This American Ex-Wife

Today we have a rich conversation with Lyz Lenz, a true wild woman and writer who just released her fourth book “This American Ex-Wife” that instantly hit the New York Times best selling list.  This conversation is hilarious, thought provoking, and may hit close to home for many of you out there.

Today we discuss:

  • Her early years in Texas as the second oldest of eight children where she was homeschooled, expected to follow “the rules”, and shown the importance of being a “good person” vs having a “good life”.
  • The fateful moment when Lyz found the box in the crawl space of her basement and truly saw the reality of her marriage.
  • The hard question: Is marriage the happy ending we’re told it is? and why women often carry the burden of blame in unhappy marriages.
  • The public experience of getting fired for political backlash, the storm that followed and the resilience and community it took to hold strong and recover.
  • Life post-divorce, the pathway to having it all, and navigating co-parenting.
