221. Wired & Tired: Where Are the Guardrails?

Women are tired. Anxious. Angry. Grieving. And exhausted by the expectation that we will keep absorbing the blows and moving forward.

In this episode of Tend HER Wild, Betsy and Kate ask: Where are the guardrails—the boundaries, protections, and collective responses that keep harm from becoming ordinary? We explore the toll of casual cruelty, objectification, and silence, and why women need more than encouragement to take care of themselves. We need community, accountability, and men willing to speak up.

In this episode, we explore:

  • The exhaustion of feeling constantly on alert while carrying anger, grief, and disappointment.
  • How the bystander effect and our willingness to move on can leave women feeling alone.
  • “Himpathy”—the disproportionate sympathy extended toward men who cause harm, often at women’s expense.
  • The power of women coming together to name what is happening and demand something different.
  • Why men’s voices matter—and what meaningful solidarity looks like beyond private agreement.
  • Skeleton Woman, the story shared by Clarissa Pinkola Estés in Women Who Run With the Wolves, as a lens for exploring fear, tenderness, and renewal.
  • The possibility of healing when we stop turning away and begin patiently untangling what hurts.

We close with an invitation to men: Bring your courage, your tenderness, and your willingness to stay present. We need your voices—and your hearts.
